SOUP NYC’S AB Logic had the opportunity to speak with Paul Anthony, 1/2 of the House and Techno duo Gettoblaster, who will be making their Boat Trippin’ debut this July.
AB Logic of SOUP: CONGRATS ON ALL YOUR RECENT SUCCESS! GETTOBLASTER HAS BEEN ON AN ABSOLUTE TEAR WITH RELEASES AND SUMMER SHOWS. WE ARE BEYOND PUMPED TO HOST YOU ALONG WITH DERRICK CARTER FOR OUR BOAT TRIPPIN’ SERIES THIS SUMMER. I KNOW MANY FANS MIGHT LABEL YOU GUYS AS DETROIT DJ’S BECAUSE OF YOUR CURRENT HOME LOCATION IN MICHIGAN, BUT I KNOW YOUR ROOTS ARE IN CHICAGO. WE THINK YOU AND DERRICK CARTER ARE AN AWESOME PAIRING FOR THE SERIES AND LOOK FORWARD TO SOME CLASSIC CHICAGO VIBES OUT ON THE WATER. CAN YOU TALK A BIT ABOUT YOUR CHICAGO ROOTS AND HOW THEY HAVE INFLUENCED YOUR DJ AND PRODUCTION STYLE TODAY?
Paul Anthony (of Gettoblaster): I grew up in Chicago. I used to have a different name before Zach & I met. I used to work at a few record shops back in the day, where I became friends with People like Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Colette, Heather, DJ Sneak, and many others. Which was an incredible era of House music, and have been friends ever since. We played many Warehouse parties in Chicago together along with some of the most memorable House clubs of all time. Gettoblaster project has always been a combination of Chicago groove and Detroit toughness, which I’m sure you can hear in our music.
YOU GUYS HAVE CHURNED OUT SOME OF OUR FAVORITE RECORDS OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. WHAT DO YOU HAVE UPCOMING RELEASE WISE THAT YOU TWO ARE EXCITED ABOUT? ANYTHING WE CAN LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING ON THE BOAT?
We are currently working on a new EP for Detroit infamous KMS records opened by Kevin Saunderson, of innercity. We’re have a couple EP’s lined up on Amine Edge & Dance’s label CUFF. We also are very excited about our own label Aliens On Mushrooms , and We Jack. Dropping an album among many other releases but we are very excited for that. Also getting ready to launch our vinyl version of our label with Gettoblaster collabs with DJ Deeon, Chip E., Steve Silk Hurley, DJ Skip, Robert Armani, DJ Sneak and many others.
I KNOW THIS IS NOT YOUR FIRST SHOW IN NYC.. ARE THERE ANY STORES OR RESTAURANTS THAT ARE ‘MUST VISIT” FOR YOU GUYS WHEN YOU’RE HERE IN NYC?
We love going to Supreme and Kith. But it is hard to say exactly though, as every time we are in New York we find something new.
YOUR LABEL ALIENS ON MUSHROOMS HAS BEEN MAKING BIG WAVES. WHAT ARE SOME UPCOMING RELEASES IN THE PIPES? ARE THERE ANY RISING ARTISTS ON THE LABEL WE SHOULD KEEP OUR EYES AND EARS ON?
The label is focused on breaking news talent and mingling with legends. So many great releases in the pipeline. Gettoblaster Album, DJ Sneak, Roland Clark, Harvard Bass, Steady Rock, Tony H, Charles Meyer, Eldon (UK) , DJ Godfather, Andre Salmon, Love & Logic, and many others.
